Is Healthcare A Right

At a recent forum in Brewster several highly qualified people discussed the future of health care in the United States specifically the idea of a single-payer system.
Is healthcare a right. American Indians and Alaska natives are born with a legal right to health services and thats based on treaties in which the tribes exchanged land and natural resources for various social. Today 46 million people have no health insurance and even more are underinsured with high deductibles and co-payments. This is a conceptual problem rarely addressed by healthcare providers.

At a time when 60 million people including many with insurance do not have access to a medical home more than 18000 Americans die every year from preventable illnesses because they do not get to the doctor when.
Rights properly understood explain the minimal normative obligations required for human beings to live together cooperatively rather than combatively. The protection against coerced labor exists even if there is a right to healthcare. Our health care system is disintegrating. The right to health care is an internationally recognized human right. The Founding Fathers stated that we have rights to life liberty.
Yet for over 100 years some Americans have believed that health care. Kennedy speaks of rights as if they are created by government not derived from. Yet some of our citizens oppose healthcare as a right.
