The confusion gets a little deeper when the winery chooses to spell Sirah as Syrah In California Petite Syrah is the same wine as Petite Sirah and shouldnt be confused with Syrah In France although I hesitate to mention it growers distinguish between Grosse Syrah and Petite Syrah the latter being the better grape and both being true Syrah. Petite sirah wines are more tannic and deeper in color than syrah.

Viticulture Wine growers often say Syrah likes a view because the best vineyards are usually towards the top of hills where there is less soil making the vines produce less but more concentrated grapes.
